Worship Calendar Planning Workshop - Saturday, November 8 , 9:00-11:30 AM (coffee and snacks at 8:30 )

Nancy and Bob Warren , Worship Co-Chairs

Come one, come all interested souls. Help plan the worship calendar for 2008-2009. We need representatives from Worship Committee, Music, Hospitality , Social Action , Green Sanctuary and ADG among others. We will be planning the calendar for worship services for the remainder of the year. This meeting was initially planned for September, but we were "blown away" by Ike. We would like representation from all the activities and groups in Thoreau, so that Worship services can feature all our programs.

Cassey Crouch attended General Assembly this summer and brought back lots of ideas for developing an inclusive and comprehensive worship calendar. We will begin by deciding upon the Worship Theme for the year, and then set up a comprehensive calendar. Input from different commit-tees will allow us to have a more coordinated "Sunday experience" with idea themes shared by ADG, Worship, and hospitality. Let us all participate in this collaborative process to make Sun-days and Worship all that it can be.

Conscious Acts of Grace January 4

Joe Sullivan

Mark your calendars for Sunday, January 4, when Thoreau will have the privilege of wel-coming Liza Ely, who will offer a workshop on the subject of her recent book Conscious Acts of Grace - A Collection of End-of-Life Stories. It takes courage to enter into stories about dying. This taboo subject is usually avoided at all costs. In this workshop ses-sion, you are invited to proceed gently with an open heart , knowing you are a pioneer in bringing life into death. With an opportunity to share with others and to experience peace and support, the following topics are ex-plored: Listening, Support, Dignity, Faith, Letting Go, Forgiveness, And Then Some. The workshop will be from 1:00-4:00 PM fol-lowing the worship service at which Ely will also present the sermon on this topic. Watch for further announcements and sign-up info.

Liza Ely, M.S., is a licensed professional counselor and contributor to More Random Acts of Kindness . Her book and her CD, Breathe in Life , provide positive alternatives when faced with a loss of a loved one. Liza shares tools for living our best life. In January of 2000, she led a worship service and work-shop at Thoreau on Living in the Spirit of Simplicity . Liza was for several years on the staff our Southwest UU District's Dwight Brown Leadership School .
