Our Church Community

At Thoreau, we're a congregation that likes to have fun! We offer a number of both social and educational opportunities. Members and guests are welcome to join in as little or as much as they like.

Every week after the service we gather in the fellowship wing and share good food and conversation. Our hospitality committee sometimes sponsors special events during this social hour. We've had chili cook-offs, vegetarian pot lucks, Earth Day picnics at a nearby park, showers for the homeless shelter, and pancake lunches. Occasionally a class or lecture is held after the fellowship time for those who are interested in attending.

In additional to regularly scheduled social and discussion groups, we have occasional special events such as a back yard concert, our annual Services and Things Auction, pot luck dinners, a night at the theatre, or pool parties.

We also have a number of groups that meet in the evenings on a regular basis, usually monthly. These range from book discussion groups to a gypsy tribal dancing class. Our goal is to not only provide opportunities to socialize, but to provide opportunities to learn, expand our minds and stretch ourselves and our imaginations. Please refer to the Coming Events page to find out exactly where and when the next meeting of each group is.
